About Marina
Marina is a small fishing village in the Split-Dalmatia County, set deep in the Marina bay, just 12 kilometres west of Trogir. The municipality has around 4,000 residents and the village of Marina itself just over a thousand — making it a quiet, authentic destination away from the crowds of larger tourist hubs.
Marina is first mentioned in 1070 under its old name Bosiljina, as part of the Trogir commune. The main historical landmark is the 15th-century Marina Tower — a fortress built on rocks rising directly from the sea — which once served as the central defensive structure. Next to it stand the Citadel and the Church of St. John the Baptist from the same period. Above the village rises Drid hill with the small Church of Our Lady of the Snows on its summit, a popular hiking destination with views over the bay and islands.
The Marina Riviera also includes the neighbouring villages of Vinišće, Poljica and Sevid, with an indented coastline full of small bays with sandy and pebble beaches. The local Marina Agana port, with 140 sea berths, makes the area a favourite starting point for boat trips to the islands of Drvenik Veli, Drvenik Mali and Šolta.
